Back to School: How to Support Teachers

Back to School: How to Support Teachers

As we come to the last week of September, school schedules and routines should be settling into more of a steady rhythm. It has been a tough couple of years, and we are all hoping for some normalcy this school year. However, there is a large shortage of teachers and support staff all across the country. Now more than ever, teachers need our help and support. Let’s make this school year great by finding ways to step in and help fill the gaps.

Volunteer

  • In the classroom
  • On the playground
  • On field trips
  • In the lunchroom
  • In the library
  • Cutting papers or assembling items at home
  • Helping at events
  • Check with the school and teacher for other ways to help

There are many benefits and reasons to volunteer!

Get to know teachers

  • Take the time to connect with your child’s teacher and stay connected
  • Ask questions and engage
  • Attend parent-teacher events
  • Read emails and paperwork the teacher sends
  • Be available for conversations if needed
  • Listen to what the teacher has to say with a kind, open mind
  • Let them know you care

Getting to know your child's teacher helps to provide the best learning opportunity for your child!

Support your child

Superhero
  • Make sure your child gets plenty of rest
  • Make healthy food options a regular part of your child’s diet
  • Provide a quiet place for them to do their homework
  • Assist them with their work if they need help
  • Let your child know that you are proud of them
  • Do not focus on grades only
  • Focus on helping your child become a well-rounded person of character
  • Be their biggest cheerleader

Supporting your child is one of the most important keys to their happiness and success!

Donate

  • Books for the library
  • Warm coats, hats, gloves, etc. for the colder months
  • School uniforms

  • Art, music, and gym supplies
  • Ask if there are any needs that the school/teacher has

Donating to schools has an incredible impact on many lives!

Conclusion

With your help and support, this school year can be the best one yet! Start now by having your child make a card for their teacher. (You can make one too!)  Have your child decorate it and give it to their teacher!

In what ways have you helped a teacher? Teachers, what would you add to this list?

If you have questions or need support, we are here to help!
